Davey O’Brien Award

Officially, the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O’Brien Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The Davey O’Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O’Brien’s enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics.

Named for TCU’s legendary quarterback and 1938 Heisman Trophy winner, the Davey O’Brien Award was originally established in 1977 as the Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy and was given to the most outstanding player in the Southwest. In 1981, the award changed to its current focus as a national award for quarterbacks only.
