MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee Christian (Murfreesboro, TN) Cougars were looking to make a statement heading into the TSSAA Division II-A playoffs last Friday night.

The Grace Baptist Academy (Chattanooga, TN) Golden Eagles got that message loud and clear in a 44-13 loss.

Both teams made the playoff field with MTCS nailing down a No. 5 seed in their bracket. The Cougars will travel to west Tennessee Friday night to take on the No. 4 Tipton-Rosemark Academy (Millington, TN) Rebels in what should be a slightly more favorable matchup for the Cougars.

Grace Baptist, which received a No. 6 seed, will also head to the western part of the state to take on the Fayette Academy (Somerville, TN) Vikings who are seeded No. 3 in their bracket.

If they both manage to advance, however, their fortunes would be reversed in the second round. MTCS would have the misfortune of having to face the undefeated Friendship Christian (Lebanon, TN) Commanders – Division II-A’s top-ranked team. Grace Baptist would take on a 7-3 Donelson Christian Academy (Nashville, TN) Wildcats’ squad that is seeded No. 2 in its bracket.
