KILGORE, Texas — It wasn’t pretty, but Kilgore College will gladly take the win.

After racing out to a 17-0 halftime lead, the Rangers had to hang on for dear life to escape with a 17-15 victory over New Mexico Military in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

Kilgore (3-3, 2-2) forced a fumble on third down with four seconds left. Troy Burnett recovered the loose pigskin to secure the win for the Rangers.

With the win, Kilgore improved to 3-3 (2-2) while the Broncos fell to 2-4 (0-4).

Kilgore scored a pair of touchdowns off NMMI turnovers in the first quarter. The Rangers scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Jacob Frazier off a Broncos fumble and a 7-yard run by Demarcus Smith following an interception by teammate Morgan Vest.

Next up for Kilgore is a trip to Corsicana to face a resurgent Navarro Bulldogs’ squad coming off a big win over the College Football America Top 5 Tyler Apaches. NMMI will return home and host CFA No. 14 Blinn.
