1909 – College Football Hall of Fame Class of 1954 member Ben Ticknor was born. Ticknor played center for Harvard (1928-1930).
1916 – College Football Hall of Fame Class of 1965 member Brud Holland was born. Holland played end for Cornell (1936-1938).
1990 – Two-time Biletnikoff Award winner Justin Blackmon was born. Blackmon played wide receiver for Oklahoma State (2008-2011), and during his redshirt sophomore and junior seasons, he won back-to-back Biletnikoff Awards as college football’s top receiver. He chose to forego his final season of eligibility, and was then drafted with the fifth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Substance abuse issues have marred his professional career, and Blackmon has not played in an NFL game since October 2013.

2012 – The 2012 BCS National Championship Game was a rematch of the regular-season meeting between the No. 1 LSU Tigers and the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide. The two teams were also ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the first meeting won by top-ranked LSU 9-6 on November 5, 2011. A series of upsets allowed the Crimson Tide to climb back to the No. 2 position in time for the championship game, and in the rematch, the Crimson Tide used five Jeremy Shelley field goals and a 34-yard run by Trent Richardson to win the game 21-0 taking home the national championship trophy in the process. Ironically, Shelley missed the PAT after the Richardson touchdown to account for the final margin. The Richardson score was the only touchdown in the two meetings that otherwise featured 10 field goals.
