This Week in College Baseball (April 5-11)

Vanderbilt CommodoresThe 2016 college baseball season has been a toss-up for the most part at the top with the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Florida Gators leading the pack. The Commodores have been our No. 1 team for all but one week, but with two more losses than our No. 2 team, they’ll probably need a perfect weekend against the No. 12 LSU Tigers to hang onto that spot next week. That is, unless the Gators stumble at home against the No. 8 Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Miami HurricanesThose matchups represent two of the top series this weekend while the No. 3 Miami (FL) Hurricanes will try to stay in the mix with a big road series at the unranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The No. 4 Louisville Cardinals also get another chance to prove themselves with a trip to Tallahassee to face the No. 11 Florida State Seminoles. It’s a long shot, but if the top three stumbled this weekend and Louisville was able to come away with a sweep, they could challenge for the top spot as well next week. Finally, the No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs will head north to face the unranked Kansas Jayhawks while trying to keep pace with Big 12 frontrunner Texas Tech.
